Project Description

SEED – DETROIT MASS TRANSIT SYSTEM

CONCEPT PROJECT

IT ALL STARTS WITH A SEED

The Detroit Metropolitan area has developed without the implementation of a mass transit system. This has caused the region to  be overwhelmed by urban sprawl. Working alongside Ryan Callahan, a regional mass transit system was developed with the intent of redistributing  the technology-based economies that surround the city into the city center. To do this a modular two-level elevated rail system was designed, where bus stops could be easily expanded into regional rail stops, which could subsequently be expanded into a high speed express line as the area grows. Translucent materials were used throughout the train and terminals in order to increase safety and allow for the transmission of natural light. The train cars include flip down seats to increase standing space, bacteria resistant hand grips, integrated reading lights and a bike rack, and were designed to minimize the hassle of ingress/egress. The whole system is tied together with a consistent and simple way finding system that covers the kiosks, apps, and terminal LCD panels.
